Amidst the controversy in Kentucky regarding a bill which would make branches illegal in the state, MillerCoors made public its opinion on the matter.
"MillerCoors, as well as all other brewers, only want a level playing field in Kentucky," MillerCoors spokesman Pete Marino told BBD. "That leaves only two options - retain current law allowing any other brewer to acquire a distributor if they so wish or pass HB 168 in its current form. Allowing a so-called "compromise" for ABI punishes all other brewers, leaving us at a permanent competitive disadvantage with the world's largest brewer."
Meanwhile, several local TV affiliates in Kentucky have pulled ads created by the distributor and brewer group supporting the bill as A-B called the ads "defamatory" and hinted that they possibly infringe on their trademarks. There's a lot of slinging on both sides of this issue.
Until Monday, Harry
